What is Amateur Radio?Amateur Radio is a licensed radio service in the United States administered by the FCC. It is a hobby shared by over 600,000 in the US, and millions throughout the world. Amateur Radio's principles include advancing the radio art, promoting goodwill nationally and internationally, adding to the pool of knowledge with experimentation, and providing emergency communications. We are a group of hams in Salem, Oregon, who provide various types of training for local amateurs. While we specialize in licensing classes and recruiting new hams, we eventually want to expand our offerings to include half-day or full-day workshops on topics of interest to the local ham community. We have a wealth of knowledge in our area as well as many newer hams eager to learn about the hobby. We are not-for-profit and our costs are covered through class fees. We have a variety of folks from the Salem Amateur Radio Club, Marion County ARES, DXers, VHF enthusiasts, antenna gurus, HF operators, and more! Whatever your interest, we can find someone who can help you get started. |
